Occupation: I have been working at Newtown Middle School as an executive secretary for the guidance counselor for the past six years. Prior to that I was a stay-at-home mom, and before that I worked with an architect at American Airlines. We were responsible for the updating and remodeling of LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark airports.
How Long in Newtown: I have lived here for 14 years in August. I was born in Brooklyn and raised in College Point in Queens.
Biggest Change Seen in Town: The 5/6 school. That will impact my school a lot and help the elementary schools. It will alleviate space problems. Weâre just growing a lot.
Family: My husband Dan and I just celebrated our 25th anniversary. We have three terrific children. Jen, 21, is a senior at the University of Connecticut; Stephanie, 17, will be a senior at Newtown High School; and James, 14, will be a freshman at Newtown High.
Pets: Bandit, part lab, part retriever, who is 8, and Tess and Max, our cats, who are 2.
Hobbies: Cooking and baking and sharing my pillow bread with the world. I love to read and go to tag sales. Iâm always getting rid of stuff and getting more.
Favorite Books and Authors: My favorite author is Mary Higgins Clark. I also like cookbooks, mysteries, and biographies. I pretty much read everything.
Favorite TV Show: Boston Public, The Practice, the Cooking Channel, and almost any comedy sitcom. I love to laugh.
Organizations: Middle School PTA board, PTA Council, and the Prevention Council. I am also a member of the Newtown Congregational Church. A group of us have a ladies club that meets once a week â strictly for fun, cheering up, support, and laughter. It was supposed to be a craft club â weâre yet to do a craft. Itâs like extended family. I was involved for a number of years with Meals on Wheels, Democratic Club, Newtown Junior Womenâs Club, and WIN.
Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: Shortly after we had moved to Newtown, some ducks laid a bunch of eggs in my vegetable garden. It was a treat to watch them tend their eggs and then see the babies hatch. It was wonderful to see. Then they went away. I still marvel at seeing deer, rabbits, and other creatures living among us.
Favorite Vacation Spot: Anywhere thereâs an amusement park. My husband and I are also going to Italy in the spring with friends â a trip weâve taken before to the Northern parts and look forward to again. I hope to get to see family when Iâm there.
Personal Philosophy: I loved the movie Pay It Forward. I have been paying it forward most of my life. I truly enjoy volunteering and helping as many people as I can. My goal has always been, keep the chain going: If I do something for you, I hope you do for another and so on.
