Donald J. Sumple, Sr

Donald J. Sumple, Sr, 65, beloved husband of Mary Frances (Umsatatter) Sumple, of Windsor, died July 6 at St Francis Hospital, Hartford.

Born in Bridgeport on December 22, 1936, he was the son of the late Michael and Gertrude (Lucas) Sumple.

He was a resident of Newtown for more than 37 years. He and his wife moved to Windsor a little more than a month ago.

Mr Sumple worked as an engineer with several companies throughout his career, including Nelco in Kansas and San Diego, Calif., and was currently employed for the past four years with Hamilton Sundstrand as a project engineer. He enjoyed working with computers at home and very much enjoyed his family, especially his three grandchildren. In 1990, Mr Sumple ran and was proud to complete the New York City Marathon at age 53, after many months of training.

Besides his wife of 42 years, he leaves a daughter, Melissa Fenner and her husband, Kevin, of Manchester; two sons, Donald Sumple of Torrington and his fiancée, Maria Fitzpatrick, and Jonathan Sumple of Pompano Beach, Fla.; a brother, Michael Sumple and his wife, Pat, of New Milford, a sister, Virginia Mueller of St Petersburg, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Kyle, Jake, and Maxwell. He was also predeceased by one brother, Bernard Sumple.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 9 at St Gertrude Church, 550 Matianuck Avenue, Windsor. Burial was private at the convenience of his family.

The Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor, was in charge of arrangements.
