Charles Edward Newton, husband of the late Ruth (Carroll) Newton, died peacefully in his Lazybrook Road, Newtown, home on July 2 after a 94-year life of compassion and integrity.
Mr Newton was born in Danbury April 16, 1908, sixth child of the late Edward and Honora (Skiffington) Newton. He was a graduate of Pratt Institute.
For more than 40 years, before his retirement in 1973, he was employed as a signal maintainer for the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad. His interest in trains continued in his retirement and he devoted many, many hours to building a model train for his great-grandchildrenâs enjoyment.
He is survived by one son, Edward J. Newton and his wife, Linda, of Newtown.
A Gold Star father, Mr Newton was predeceased by his son Richard Charles Newton, who was killed by enemy fire during the Korean War.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Deborah Newton, Elizabeth Boisvert and her husband, Kenneth, Peter Kleid and his wife, Liliana, and Nina Gauthron and her husband, Patrick. Special grandchildren are Amy and Richard Mohr, and Linda and Kevin Sylvester.
Funeral services were held at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, with the Rev Janice Touloukian, officiating. Interment was in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
