Audubon Society Public Events
Lillinonah Audubon Society has two events planned during July. Both are free of charge and open to the public. Details follow:
On Sunday, July 14, the society is sponsoring a quiet afternoon at the Old Quarry Nature Center in Danbury. The gates of the center are open for two hours on the second Sunday of each month from 1 to 3 pm. On July 14, Barbara Starr will be on hand to lead a leisurely exploration.
The pace will be geared to the group that gathers, but will not be a strenuous if the weather is warm. The walk will focus on the small wonders that take a patient eye to discover. Participants are advised to wear sturdy shoes, and bring along sunscreen, insect repellant and water. Call Ms Starr at 748-2599 with any questions and to make a reservation.
On Saturday, July 27, the society has scheduled a hike at White Memorial in Litchfield to seek out interesting flora and birds. The group will walk the boardwalk around Little Pond, where they may spot a snowy egret (with luck) and also some blooming aquatic plants.
Martha Cushman will be there to identify any plants that are found and Carolyn Longstreth will be the bird expert. The group will meet to carpool at 8 am at the commuter parking lot near I-84 Exit 14 in Southbury. Wear walking shoes and a hat, and bring binoculars if desired, water and a snack.
Call Ms Cushman at 798-0477 for further details and to make a reservation.
