Stephen Hensel
Stephen “Steve” Burt Hensel, of Southbury, Conn., passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on July 6, after a long battle with cancer. He was 58 years old.
Steve, formerly of Sandy Hook before moving to Southbury, is survived by his wife Siobhan O’Neill and their two sons, Aidan Hensel, of Winter Park, Fla., and Brady Hensel, of Southbury.
Steve was employed at West Mountain Builders in Washington, Conn., where he worked as a foreman. He will be best remembered for being a committed, hard-working, and dedicated leader who loved his family, work, and life, and valued all the friendships he made along the way. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Steve was born August 10, 1962, to Ruth Ann Hensel and the late Kenneth Darrell Hensel, Sr, of Sandy Hook. He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth; his brother, Kenneth Hensel, Jr, of Sandy Hook; and brothers Richard Hensel and Craig Hensel, both of Southbury. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Powers, and her husband, Steve, of Newtown; his sister-in-law, Karen Hensel; as well as several nieces and nephews.
To honor Steve’s wishes, a private memorial will be held at his Southbury home on Saturday, July 10, from 1 to 3 pm for family, close friends, and co-workers who had a meaningful connection with Steve. A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Brandon Hensel Athletic Memorial Scholarship, c/o Newtown High School, to honor the recent tragic loss of his beloved nephew, Brandon.
My heartfelt sympathy to Steve’s family for their loss. I will hold dear the wonderful memories of our times together as children, having fun at Aunt Ruth Ann and Uncle Ken’s home, riding dirt bikes, and the memorable vacation at the lake, traveling in the converted school bus/camper. Sincerely, Lisa Dean Simoes
