The Newtown Road Race committee will hold its next meeting Saturday, July 15, 9 to 10 am, at Rock Ridge Country Club – the biggest meeting in an effort to coordinate the September 2 race which benefits Newtown Youth Services.

There will be discussions on the runner goody bags, sponsorships, the Kid’s Run, parking, crowd control, check-in, start/finish line management, the master of ceremonies, race course communications, food coordinators, emergency service coordinator, kids’ activities coordinator (face painting, Guinness Book effort in karate board breaking, gymnastics) and promotions.

The committee has already raised more than $15,000 thanks to the help of gold sponsors Stop & Shop, Precision Computer Systems, Newtown Pools and silver sponsors Newtown Center Pediatrics, Newtown Foot Care Group, Creative Interiors by Beth Uniacke, Bryson Filbert Jr DMD, Danbury Volkswagon, New Hope Community Church.

The race will be held Saturday, September 2, and will feature a 5K and Kid’s Run. The 5K will start at 9 am and the Kid’s Run will start at 10:15 am, both beginning and ending at Dickinson Park. The course is flat, fast, and USTAF certified. Divisions will be 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+ and prizes will be $100 for first, $75 for second and $50 for third.

The first 500 entrants will receive a t-shirt designed by one of Newtown’s students.  Walkers, runners and jogging strollers are all invited to participate.
