DERBY â The Osborne Homestead Museum has joined with The Connecticut Historic Gardens Trail, which is coordinating efforts with ten other historic museums, to celebrate Connecticutâs Historic Gardens Day on Sunday, July 9. Osborne Homestead Museum will offer several special garden tours and programs.
From noon until 4 pm, Christiana Jones, the museumâs curator, will guide visitors through the beautiful Kellogg Estate gardens to discuss the history of Colonial revival gardens.
At 1 pm, there will be a special talk about âThe Legends and Lore of Flowers,â exploring literary references to the flowers found in the museumâs gardens and on the museumâs artifacts.
Children will be invited to enjoy a fun flower scavenger hunt and learning about sundials.
The Osborne Homestead Museum explores the life and times of Frances Osborne Kellogg, an accomplished businesswoman and conservationist who was passionate about her gardens. She created tranquil gardens to have a peaceful place to retreat from the hectic world of the early 20th Century. Visitors today can continue to enjoy same sense of serenity in these gardens.
The Osborne Homestead Museum is open for free guided tours on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 am to 3 pm, and weekends from 10 am to 4 pm. The museum is at 500 Hawthorne Avenue in Derby (off Route 34), and can be contacted by calling 734-2513.
