New York Style At Newtown Deli

New Yorkers like to brag about the abundance of great delicatessens in their city, but Newtown  has nothing to be ashamed of in that department. Newtown Deli & Catering, 79 South Main Street, was created to “deliver the bold and quality flavors of New York to the main streets of Newtown,” said owner Art Praino. With more than 20 years experience in the deli business, including 15 years as a manager and owner in Queens and Newtown, Mr Praino has brought his “New York expertise to Connecticut.”

Newtown Deli offers a menu of delicious soups, signature sandwiches, and wraps (made with premium Boar’s Head deli products). Salads are as appealing to the eye as the palate, from chicken Caesar to a gorgeous Greek that is almost too pretty to eat, and the large menu is served up in a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. People come here dressed in suits, from working on construction sites, or comfortably attired while running errands.

Customers can get wonderful, made-to-order sandwiches, as well as some excellent hot dishes. A steam-table case is filled with a distinctive line of freshly prepared foods such as chicken francaise, marsala, dijon, or the ever-popular chicken parmigiana. Other specialties include sausage and peppers, as well as roast pork, and pasta dishes. Friday specials always include fish dishes such as stuffed founder with hollandaise sauce, fried shrimp, clam strips, and fried calamari.

Newtown Deli & Catering’s low carb menu is designed to meet customer requirements for healthy eating and diet planning. This menu includes a Greek salad topped with grilled chicken or shrimp, a grilled chicken parmesan low carb wrap (seven grams in the wrap), a gorgonzola salad with grilled steak, and a low carb wrap with eggs, peppers, onions, and mozzarella cheese.

As its name implies, catering is a big part of the business at Newtown Deli & Catering, which can handle food preparation and service for organizations and functions of all types and sizes. Memorable catering solutions are offered for events ranging from intimate dinner parties and backyard birthday bashes to formal galas and extravagant weddings. Active in supporting the community that supports the eatery, the recent American Cancer Society Relay For Life Survivorship Dinner was catered as a charitable donation by the deli to support Newtown residents’ dedication to cancer research.
