Irish Music House Concerts
The Shamrock Traditional Irish Music Society is offering two chances to see Edel Fox (concertina) and Ronan OâFlaherty (fiddle), with guitarist Ryan McGiver, up close and personal during a pair of summertime house parties this month.
The first concert is planned for Monday, July 17, at 7:30 pm, in Monroe, and the second show will be the following evening, also at 7:30, in New Haven.
Seating is limited, but directions are available from Tim Quinn at 203-254-1271.
Edel Roy, an 18-year old native of Miltown Malbay, County Clare, learned the concertina from Noel Hill and made her radio debut age of seven. She plays music evocative of her native West Clare, with a joy and abandon that lifts the spirit.
âThe interplay between Edel and Ronan shows great daring and portrays a sense of fun and devilment rarely heard on recordings these days,â said Kevin Crawford of the band Lunasa. âFor me the key to making music is having the ability to listen to your fellow players, communicating on a musical level back and forth with tunes and ideas until ultimately it becomes as natural as making conversation with close friends.â
The Shamrock Traditional Irish Music Society has been awarded a grant from Culture Ireland in support of its summer concerts. The society has been bringing traditional Irish musicians to Newtown for a number of year, and the shows are usually standing room only.
The next concert scheduled for Newtown will be at Newtown Meeting House on Wednesday, August 30. The 7:30 pm show will feature Liz Carroll and John Doyle co-headlining.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children. Contact Mr Quinn at the phone number above for details and ticket reservations, or visit ShamrockIrishMusic.org for full details of all upcoming shows.
