Hawleyville PO Will Celebrate

Baseball With A Special Cancellation

As a community service, the United States Postal Service regularly offers pictorial cancellations commemorating local events celebrated in communities throughout the nation.

One such pictorial cancellation will be available from Hawleyville Post Office on Thursday, July 20. It is specially designed by the USPS in conjunction with Major League Baseball and the “Legends of Baseball” series of stamps that went on sale July 6.

“The Postal Service and baseball have a lot in common,” says Mark Favale of the Hawleyville Post Office. “We both reach out to every community in our country. Just as we deliver to every address in America, every day, baseball is played in each sandlot, field, and stadium around the country.

“These stamps are a great way to honor those that played before us, and the Hawleyville cancellation will honor those that play around us,” Mr Favale continued.

The Hawleyville Post Office will honor young baseball players from surrounding towns, have a free raffle and other baseball surprises on July 20 in coordination with the special cancellation.

The cancellation is engraved by Barto Engraving of Brookfield, the same artist who designed Hawleyville’s December 31 special cancellation.

For those who will be unable to visit Hawleyville Post Office on July 20 but would like to obtain the cancellation, mail order requests will be honored. The cancellation is available only for July 20, and requests must be postmarked no later than 30 days following the requested pictorial cancellation date.

All requests must include a self-addressed stamped envelope to return the cancellation in, and a stamped envelope or postcard bearing at least the minimum First Class Mail postage. Items submitted for cancellation may not include postage issued after the date of the requested cancellation. Such items will be returned unserviced.

Customers wishing to obtain a cancellation should affix stamps to any envelope or postcard of their choice, address the envelope or postcard to themselves or others, insert a card of postcard thickness in envelopes for sturdiness, and tuck in flap. Place the envelope or postcard in a larger envelope and address it to: Pictorial Cancellations, Legends Of Baseball Station, 30 Hawleyville Road, Hawleyville, CT 06440-9998.
