The dispatchers at the Newtown Emergency Communications Center at Town Hall South, 3 Main Street, report the following fire calls and the responders:

Thursday, June 25: 1:17 pm, brush fire, I-84 West between Exits 9-8, Hawleyville and Dodgingtown responded; 3:06 pm, brush fire, I-84 East between Exits 10-11, Sandy Hook and Hook & Ladder responded; 3:35 pm, CO detector, South Main Street, Botsford responded.

Friday, June 26: 5:19 am, car fire, I-84 East between Exits 9-10, Hawleyville responded; 7:38 pm, alarm residential, Antler Pine Road, Sandy Hook responded.

Saturday, June 27: 7:09 am, mutual aid, Southbury, Sandy Hook responded; 11:37 am, medical assist, Far View Drive, Sandy Hook responded; 4:54 pm, motor vehicle accident (MVA) with injury, in the area of Wasserman Way and Nunnawauk Road, Hook & Ladder and Sandy Hook responded.

Sunday, June 28: 6:48 pm, MVA with injury, in the area of Berkshire Road and Toddy Hill Road, Sandy Hook responded.

Tuesday, June 30: 3:41 am, medical assist, Woods Lane, Hawleyville responded; 11:50 am, alarm residential, Platts Hill Road, Botsford and Hook & Ladder responded; 10:07 pm, MVA with injury, South Main Street, Botsford responded.

Wednesday, July 1: 6:21 pm, alarm commercial, South Main Street, Hook & Ladder responded; 7:25 pm, odor of burning outside, Boggs Hill Road, Dodgingtown responded; 8:24 pm, alarm residential, Parmalee Hill Road, Hook & Ladder responded; 8:45 pm, alarm commercial, Nunnawauk Road, Hook & Ladder responded.

Thursday, July 2: 4:04 am, medical assist, Jennifer Lane, Sandy Hook responded.

Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue firefighters are enveloped in light-colored smoke while responding to a brush fire on Thursday, June 25. The company was dispatched to I-84 East, east of the Exit 10 on ramp, at 3:08 pm that afternoon. Chief Bill Halstead located the fire, but also reported a second brush fire could be seen approximately 700 yards east, at the Exit 11 off ramp. A second crew of firefighters responded to the highway, to the second fire. Both were quickly extinguished. It was the second time last week that local firefighters responded to brush fires along the highway. Sandy Hook and Hook & Ladder were sent to I-84 West on June 23, and found three small brush fires within a 2¼-mile stretch. —Bee Photo, Hicks
