Doris Mae Bornyak

Doris Mae Bornyak, 82, of Phippsburg, Maine, formerly of Newtown, died peacefully, June 29. She was born in Bridgeport, November 27, 1929, the daughter of Emma (McMellon) and William Maloney.

On February 14, 1976, she married her best friend Michael Bornyak, and the couple resided in Newtown. She was an entrepreneur who owned several restaurants in Connecticut. Together with her husband, they operated the Question Mark Cafe and the Taunton Tavern. In 1993 the couple decided it was time to move on, to “the way life should be.” They moved to Maine to enjoy their retirement.

Snow was one of Mrs Bornyak’s favorite things; she would sit and watch it for hours, sending numerous pictures of every storm to her family in Connecticut.

Mrs Bornyak leaves behind her loving husband; three children, Wyatt Whitman of Fairfield, Emma Smith of Cheshire, and Michelle Bornyak of Bridgeport; a sister, Grace Gilbert of Virginia; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service took place July 5, in Phippsburg. A memorial in Connecticut will be planned at a later date. The family has requested that if anyone would like to make a donation in Mrs Bornyak’s name, to please make them to the Popham Chapel Woman/s Circle, Popham Road, Phippsburg, Maine 04562, where she was a devoted member.
