Zoo To Begin Hosting Weekly Farmers’ Market

BRIDGEPORT — Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo will host a weekly Farmers’ Market from 10 am to 3 pm on Sundays beginning July 8 and running through October 28. The market will be set up in the zoo’s parking lot at 1875 Noble Avenue, and neither zoo nor Beardsley Park admission is required.

Various farms from throughout the state will bring their fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables plus homemade baked goods, pesto sauce, pasta sauce, jellies, jams, preserves, Goat Boy soap, local Connecticut honey, home décor, and more.

“We are pleased to offer this service to the community,” said zoo director Gregg Dancho. “Connecting consumers with farms will help our neighbors enjoy high quality products, support the local economy, preserve open space, and help the environment by reducing the distance food must travel from production to plate.”

According to the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, there are about 87 farmers’ markets throughout the state, and demand for markets increases every year.
