Thirty years ago, the Mayflower Book Club was formed in Newtown.

Although a few members have left, the present group still meets once a month to discuss a variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction.

“The discussions are always lively and interesting, and everyone looks forward to the meetings,” said Liz Arneth, a member of the group.

“There is always laughter,” she added.

Recently, the group met at the Mayflower Inn — where several major anniversaries have been celebrated — to once again enjoy the camaraderie of special friends who have shared many life changing experiences along with the books they have read.

Diana Johnson, Joy Kopesky, Rosalie Newman, Joy Kopesky, and Maureen Rohmer still live in Newtown, while other members have moved to Southbury or Oxford.

“We are all looking forward to the next selection,” Ms Arneth said.
