Susan M. Swaney, Former Council Member, Dies
Susan (Munson) Magi Swaney, 58, formerly of Newtown and Fairfield, died July 4 in St Vincentâs Medical Center with her family at her side.
Born in Bridgeport, she was a resident of Fairfield for most of her life and was employed as a realtor prior to her retirement. She also worked for Michaelâs Jewelers. Susan was an active volunteer for Hospice, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, the Jewish Home for the Elderly, the Humane Society, and Operation Hope.
She was also a Rotarian in the towns of Southbury, Newtown, and Fairfield. She also took part in the March on Washington with Jesse Jackson. She was a political fundraiser and was also on the Newtown Legislative Council. Susan loved gardening and sailing.
She was deeply loved by her children and family: two daughters, Kim Magi of Bridgeport and Estella (Magi) Leahy and her husband, Tim, of Fairfield; one son and his wife, Edward and Kate Magi of Fairfield; three brothers, Douglas Munson and his wife, Mary Ann, of Fairfield, and Jim Munson and Cal Munson of Fairfield; one sister, Estella Elesh and her husband, David, of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Eddie and Nicole Magi of Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, July 7, at 11 am at the Shaughnessy Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield, with the Dr S. Albert Newman officiating. Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Friends may pay their respects to her family on Friday, July 6, from 4 to 8 pm.
