Down 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth against Danbury, it seemed as if the Newtown 9-year-old All Stars were already on their way out in the Bethel Tournament – but even though the Nines were down, they most certainly were not out.

Newtown rallied back from that deficit to beat Danbury, 7-6, and the rallied has yet to slow down. Newtown hammered Middlebury, 17-4, in the second game of the tournament and then blasted New Fairfield, 10-3, in the third game.

Newtown is 3-0.

In the win over Danbury, it was Kurt Nacewicz who had the game-winning hit, while Jake DeVellis and Robert Brautigam collected two hit apiece. On the mound, Charlie Lobosco whiffed seven batters in three innings to slow down the opponent’s offense and Nick Saviano whiffed three in the fourth inning.

In the win over Middlebury, DeVellis and Muraskiewicz were solid on the mound (Muraskiewicz struck out the side in the third inning). Mickey Fay and Andrew Meisel were great in the field, shutting Middlebury out of two big scoring opportunities.

In the win over New Fairfield, Ricky Gallucci belted a three-run triple to kick start the offensive outburts. Saviano pitched three innings and fanned six batters as Brett LaBlanc led the defense by handling three tough plays at first base.
