Bad Checks

Police report they charged Darla Ferris, 37, of 208 Brushy Hill Road July 4 on a warrant listing two counts of issuing a bad check.

After processing, police released Ferris on bond for a July 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Failure To Appear

Police said they charged Franklin A. Smith, 31, of New Milford on a warrant July 5 listing charges of failure to appear in court and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. The motor vehicle charge stems from a July 1999 incident, police said.

Police said they held Smith on bond for a July 5 court arraignment.

 

Flashlight Found

A police officer on patrol duty July 4 found a black five-battery Maglite flashlight lying in the road at the entrance to Resurrection Cemetery on South Main Street. The flashlight carries a distinctive inscribed monogram.

The person who lost the flashlight may claim it by contacting patrol officer Jeff Kovic at the police station.

Porsche Vs Motorcycle

Police report an accident between a sports car and a motorcycle on Main Street about 11:30 am July 1.

Police said motorcyclist James Kiosse, 51,  of Monroe, who was driving a 1989 Suzuki Katana motorcycle, was stopped in a line of northbound traffic on Main Street near the town center. The motorcycle was then struck from behind by northbound motorist Herbert L. Galant, 71, of Tenafly, N.J., who was driving a 1999 Porsche SL. Police said Kiosse was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police charged Galant with operating a motor vehicle at an unsafe distance. Police charged Kiosse with failure to carry automotive insurance and misuse of a marker plate.

Route 34 Crash

Police report an accident on westbound Route 34 near Chestnut Hill Road about 3:30 pm June 20.Westbound motorist Natalia K. Wittmer, 30, of Shelton, who was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina, saw a mail truck stopped on the road shoulder delivering mail and then stopped behind it. The Chevrolet was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Justin Elander, 22, of 6 Old Castle Hill Road, who was driving a flatbed truck, police said. Ms Wittmer was transported to Danbury Hospital by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps for the treatment of injuries, police said. Police issued Elander a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Hattertown Crash

Motorist Erin M. Hanley, 28, of Bethel, who was driving a 1997 Honda Civic northbound on Hattertown Road about 2:40 am July 4, lost control of the auto on the wet road and struck a utility pole on the southbound shoulder, breaking the pole in half, police said. Hanley was not injured. Police said they issued Hanley a written warning for failure to drive to the right.
