A Winter Walk
A Winter Walk
By Kay Ozanne
The sun was shining brightly on a three-day heavy snowfall. The wind was gone. The temperature was up. This, I thought, was the perfect time to put on my boots, parka, hat and warm gloves to venture out into the world of fresh air.
As I opened the garage door I was pleased to see that my maintenance man had worked magic on the driveway ⦠it was bone dry.
Everything smelled so clean and shown so brightly. The trees glistened with their winter coats of snow and ice. Winter can truly be a wonderland.
As I walked down my mile-long drive I noticed the birds eagerly having breakfast at my many feeders scattered throughout the grounds.
It was so quiet and peaceful I might have been alone in the world. The only sound to be heard was the occasional dropping of ice from a tree branch onto the snow below. I passed a large stand of pines. They too greeted me with a pleasing fragrance, that of a Christmas morning.
When I reached the main road I was abruptly brought back to the hi-tech world of today with automobiles streaming past on their never ceasing race to get nowhere. I turned, retraced by steps and thought how lucky I was to be tucked in the woods away from all this destruction of a wonderful mother nature.
