During a cellphone enforcement project, police said they spotted motorist Jennifer Chafitz, 38, of Southbury talking on a handheld cellphone while driving a vehicle eastward on Sugar Street, near its intersection with Juniper Road, at about 9 am June 25.
Police said they stopped Chafitz to investigate, after which they charged her with talking on a handheld cellphone while driving, and also with driving with a suspended license and failure to return a driverâs license to the state after its suspension.
Following processing, police released Chafitz on $100 bail for a July 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Church Hill Crash
About 4:37 pm June 23, motorist Susan Kehoe, 58, of Woodbury was driving a 2000 Subaru Outback station wagon eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.
At that time, motorist Ellen Ritzinger, 17, of 13 Winding Brook Road, who was driving a 2001 Isuzu Trooper SUV, was traveling northward in a commercial driveway at 34 Church Hill Road, police report.
The Isuzu then attempted to make a right turn onto eastbound Church Hill Road, but the Isuzu and the Subaru collided, police said.
There were no injuries. Ritzinger received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way, according to police.
Hawleyville Collision
Police report that at about 12:39 pm June 25, motorist Barbara Bradley, 61, of 171 Riverside Road, who was driving a 2006 Saturn Ion sedan on the Exit 9 off-ramp of westbound Interstate 84, stopped at a stop sign at the end of that ramp.
At that time, trucker Herivelto Ferreira, 47, of Waterbury was driving a commercial 2001 International 4700 truck northward on Hawleyville Road, police said.
The Saturn then turned left onto southbound Hawleyville Road, resulting in a collision with the truck, according to police.
There were no injuries. Bradley received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Three Violations
While on patrol late on the night of June 22, police noticed a motorist driving a vehicle near 47 Church Hill Road that did not have its rear marker plate illuminated.
Police said they stopped the driver, Vincent Bodetti, 24, of 56 Forest Drive and investigated, after which they charged him with failure to illuminate a rear marker plate, driving with a suspended license, and failure to carry a vehicle registration.
Following processing, police released Bodetti a written promise to appear in court on July 9.
Rainy Conditions
About 12:12 am on June 21, motorist Garrett Uhde, 18, of 12 Turkey Hill Road was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima sedan southward near 55 Boulevard in rainy, wet conditions, when while negotiating a curve in the road, he crossed the streetâs centerline and struck some guardrailing along the left road shoulder, police said.
Uhde was not injured. Police verbally warned him for failure to drive to the right on a curve.
DUI Arrest
Police report that they saw motorist Lisa Gordon, 47, of Brookfield driving a vehicle northward on Currituck Road in its southbound lane, near its intersection with Tunnel Road, at about 2:21 am June 28, so they stopped her to investigate.
Police charged Gordon with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.
After processing, she was released on $100 bail for a July 10 court appearance, police said.
Highway Collision
State police report that at about 4:34 pm on June 25, motorist Jon Burdeshaw, 35, of Meriden, who was driving a 2009 Cadillac CTS sedan eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, was slowing for heavy traffic, when the Cadillac was hit from behind by motorist John Wolfe, 46, of Old Lyme, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry sedan.
There were no injuries. Wolfe received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.
Hanover Road
Police said that at about 1:30 am on June 30, they spotted a pickup truck heading southward on Hanover Road, near its intersection with Boulevard, which was carrying in its rear cargo compartment a street name sign for Budd Drive and a stop sign, so they stopped the vehicle to investigate.
Police said they charged the driver, Kyle Deshan, 20, of Bethel, with driving under the influence and with sixth-degree larceny.
Also, police charged pickup truck passenger Gergely Ajtay, 20, of Easton with sixth-degree larceny.
After processing both arrests, police released each man on $200 bail for July 14 court appearances.
Vandalism/Theft
Sometime between 8 pm on June 24 and 8 am on June 25, someone committed vandalism and a theft at a residential property on Sugar Street, near its intersection with Sugar Lane.
Police said someone slashed two tires on a Toyota Sienna minivan parked there and also stole a red tricycle with white trim and a Mickey Mouse handlebar bell, police said.
Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer Steven Siecienski at 426-5841.
Mail Truck
About 11:47 am June 25, motorist Rita Finaldi, 78, of Vero Beach, Fla., was driving a 2008 Honda Accord westward on Pearl Street and was traveling through its intersection with Charlieâs Circle, when Lisa Cox, 49, of Bridgeport, who was driving a US Postal Service 1993 Grumann LLV mail truck, turned right from Charlieâs Circle onto Pearl Street and collided with the Honda, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Cox a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
