Around The Horn ... 10U Baseball Results

Hawks 13, Monroe 3: Kelland Chrystie, Brendan Hensel, Geoff Santore and Peter Clifford combined to strike out 14 Monroe batters to lead the Hawks to their first victory. Geoff Santore was 3-for-4, including a double and Colin Patrick was 2-for-4 with a double. Owen Samson and Peter Clifford also had two hits apiece and scored twice for the Hawks.

Hawks 11, New Fairfield 1: Colin Patrick, Brendan Hensel, Michael Liberante, Peter Clifford and Austin LeBlanc combined on a three-hitter to shut down New Fairfield and improve to 2-1 on the season. Dan Pearson had two hits, including a double, and scored twice and Owen Samson had two hits and scored twice. Peter Clifford also had two hits for the Hawks. Tom Cotton rifled a relay throw to Michael Schlesinger who made a nice tag to nail a runner at home plate in the defensive play of the game. Paul Whitaker slammed a an apparent two-run double to the wall, but the hit did not count because the Hawks batted out of order.

Redding 7, Hawks 4: Redding jumped out to a 7-0 lead by the third inning. Newtown battled back with two runs in the third and two in the fourth, but could not muster the comeback in their first Travel B game in Route 84 League play. Colin Patrick was 1-for-2 with a two-RBI double and Newtown executed two double steals including steals of home by Kelland Chrystie and Brandon Hansel.

Redding 15, Bombers 0: The Bombers played a great game on defense as Shawn Fulton gunned a runner down at third base, Nick Rohrbacher caught a fly ball and Scott McLean made a nice play at second base. The highlight play of the day was made by Matt Campbell who dove and caught a fly ball while playing left field. He doubled a runner up at second on the play. Spencer Johnson hit a double to deep right, Ryan Shaw roped a double to right-center field and Timmy LeBlanc and Fulton each had a single.

Bombers 24, Southbury 8: The Bombers jumped out to an early six-run lead and never looked back to record their first victory of the season. In the first inning, Timmy LeBlanc and Robert Katrinak each had two RBI hits. In the third inning, the Bombers tacked on another six runs behind the strength of two-RBI hits from Shawn Fulton and Peter Winans. The Bombers capped off the night with an 11-run fifth inning. Dylan Tyrrell had two hits in the inning and LeBlanc collected his third hit of the game. Spencer Johnson made two put-outs while playing shortstop and Nick Rohrbacher made a nice play at third base.

Bombers 12, Woodbury 11: Brian Gallagher hit a clutch bases-clearing double in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs to rally the Bombers in a come-from-behind victory. In the first inning, the Bombers plated four runs on a bases-clearing double by Ryan Shaw and a walk by Matt Campbell to forced in a run. During the second inning, Peter Winans led off with a single to right field and was hit home on a fielder’s choice hit by Spencer Johnson. Sean Ferris and Dylan Tyrrell also had clutch hits in the game with Ferris having two RBI and Tyrrell one RBI. Johnson and Tyrrell both struck out the side during one inning each of pitching and Nick Rohrbacher caught a fly ball in right field.

Bombers 11, Middlebury 1: Spencer Johnson, Dylan Tyrrell and Brian Gallagher combined to pitch a three-hitter to lead the Bombers over Middlebury on Sunday to improve its record to 3-0 in league play. Johnson struck out six batters over three innings, fielded a ground ball on a comebacker to the mound for a put-out, and was helped by a great play by Sean Ferris in right field. Ferris also made two put-outs while playing shortstop and gunned down another runner at second base who rounded the base too far. Matt Campbell made an unassisted play while playing first base and Scott McLean caught a fly ball in left field to end the game. The Bomber offense was led by Robert Katrinak, who had two hits on the day, and Peter Winans, who hit a shot over the leftfielder’s head for a double. Both players had two RBI during an eight-run fourth inning outburst.

Bombers 6, New Milford Lightning 3: Timmy LeBlanc went 3-for-3 and scored twice and Spencer Johnson collected two hits, including a double, and scored twice, to lead the Bombers in victory. Brian Gallagher, Robert Katrinak, Ryan Shaw, Shawn Fulton and Matt Campbell each chipped in with a hit of their own.  The Bombers played another great game in the field lead by Campbell catching a fly ball at first to end the game and gunning down a runner attempting to take second on an errant throw at first base. Sean Ferris struck out three batters in one inning of work and made two plays in the field at shortstop, Dylan Tyrrell caught a fly ball and threw a runner out at first while playing shortstop, Spencer Johnson caught a line drive into the left centerfield gap and made two plays while at shortstop, and Fulton and Nick Rohrbacher made a play each while playing third base. Tyrrell and Johnson combined to pitch five scoreless innings.
