Bridgeport Hospital Plans

Fairfield County Hero Award

BRIDGEPORT –– Bridgeport Hospital plans to honor a “first responder” –– a police officer, firefighter, or ambulance corps member –– with a Fairfield County Hero Award.

The award is being introduced to celebrate the verification of Fairfield County’s only level one trauma center at the hospital by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. Level one is the highest level trauma center.

“The tragic events of September 11, 2001, demonstrated the remarkable courage of police, fire, and ambulance personnel in responding to a disaster,” said Dr Nabil Atweh, chief of trauma, burns, and surgical critical care. “These brave men and women show their courage every day in a variety of different emergency situations. September 11 reminded us that their jobs should never be taken for granted.”

Nominations for the Fairfield County Hero Award will be accepted through July 25 and reviewed by a panel of hospital judges. A finalist will be named during an August 8 ceremony at the hospital. For an application, call John Cappiello in the hospital’s marketing and communications dept, 203-384-3637, or check the website at www.bridgeporthospital.com.
