With wins over Bethel #3, Aspetuck #3, Brookfield #1 and Brookfield #2, the Swiss Army Brands captured the Babe Ruth 13 Prep Intertown championship last week behind offensive standouts such as Max Rojo and Gary Michael Andrews.

Just about everyone contributed to the run through the tournament, as Swiss Army defeated Bethel, 9-0, and Aspetuck, 9-3, before moving on to the Brookfield squads. Against Brookfield #1, Swiss Army rallied from a 4-1, first-inning deficit to win 6-5 and, in the title game against Brookfield #2, used a three-run, sixth-inning outburst to win, 3-1, and take the championship.

Rojo carried the biggest bat for Swiss Army, going 7-for-13 with three doubles, a triple, and six RBI. Andrews was 5-for-13 with four doubles and three RBI. But Max Meisel contributed three hits in eight trips to the plate, collecting two doubles and three RBI, while Brian Poeltl was 3-for-8 with six walks and seven runs scored.

Max Barrett also added two key hits.

Poeltl was solid behind the plate in the four games as Mike Hennessey and David Villareal sparked the infield defense. Richard Mitchell made an outstanding catch in rightfield in the sixth inning of the championship game.

The bulk of the pitching was done by David Modzelewski and Alex Meisel, who combined for 24 innings of work while allowing just six earned runs.

In the win over Brookfield #2, Billy Beatty came in with a one-run lead and held on for the save with two innings of shutout ball. And that was, perhaps, the biggest win of the tournament for Swiss Army Brands.

Brookfield #1 scored four runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead and Swiss Army answered back with one run in the bottom of the frame. Brookfield boosted its lead by one in the top of the third, but in the bottom of the frame Swiss Army began its comeback.

It started with two outs. Poeltl, Andrews and Rojo singled back-to-back-to-back and then Rojo doubled to account for a three-run rally.

Now down 5-4, Swiss Army plated a pair in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run double by Rojo.
