Red Cross Blood Drive On July 5
An American Red Cross Blood Drive was held from 8:30 am to 6:45 pm in the Alexandria Room of Edmond Town Hall on Thursday, July 5, as the agency made an emergency appeal for blood donations.
âRight now, weâre at less than a dayâs supply on the blood types,â Red Cross spokeswoman Catherine Nemthos said. âA comfortable supply for us is a three-day supply of blood.â
Ms Nemthos said the organization is able to supply only 50 to 60 percent of the blood requested by area hospitals.
Red Cross issued its last state appeal in February, after a snow storm forced the organization to cancel 11 blood drives. The supply began dwindling in April, and reached emergency levels in June, Ms Nemthos said.
