More Funds For Lyme Disease

To the Editor:

I have lived in this town for eight years and I’m very proud to call Newtown home. My concern at this time is the lack of funding for Lyme disease. Lyme disease is caused by a tick bite and can debilitate children and adults for the rest of their lives.

After moving here from New Jersey, it is surprising to me that Lyme disease education is not taught in the schools and teachers receive no training in this area. New Jersey requires Lyme disease education to all educators.

I believe that as the number one state in Lyme disease in the USA, with one in four ticks carrying the bacteria causing Lyme, we need to allocate funds for this worthy cause. Please write to our local and state government and ask for a plan of action. We all know someone afflicted with Lyme.
