College Safety, Financial Workshop Slated
DANBURY â The Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury has scheduled its annual âCollege Safety and Financial Independence at Collegeâ workshop on Thursday, July 15, from 7 to 9 pm.
All area male and female students entering college this fall, and their parents, are invited to learn about personal safety techniques, campus risks, the link between date/acquaintance rape and alcohol/drugs, campus and community resources, and financial independence strategies.
The Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury provides free and confidential services to prevent or lessen the trauma associated with domestic violence, sexual assault, and other major life transitions to thousands of women, children and men annually. The programs of the Womenâs Center are supported by state and local government, area United Way agencies, and the people and businesses in the communities served, including Newtown.
The workshop will be held in the Womenâs Centerâs second floor Community Room at 8 West Street, is free and open to the public
In other news, the Fred Astaire Dance Studio, at 117 Old State Road in Brookfield (behind the USA Baby building), is offering a special six-week Zumba class Saturdays beginning July 10 at 11 am.
One hundred percent of the $15 per class or $72 session donation from this fundraiser will go to The Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury. Participants are asked to wear loose and comfortable clothing, bring water, and clean sneakers.
