Conversation With Two Pianos
Conversation With Two Pianos
The Homesteads at Newtown, a senior living community, will host a special performance by the pianists King Bosworth and Janet Somoroff-Lubell. The concert, âAn Intimate Conversation for Two Pianos,â will be Sunday, July 11, at 2:30 pm.
Admission is a requested donation of $10, which will benefit The Connecticut Alzheimerâs Association.
The concert is being held in conjunction with an exhibition of original paintings by members of The Heritage Village Brush & Pencil Club. A reception for that show will be ongoing from 10 am to 5 pm on Sunday. Twenty-five percent of any art sales will also be forwarded to the Alzheimerâs association.
Janet Somoroff-Lubell was born in Seattle and started piano lessons at age 6. She received a music scholarship to Washington State College and was a soloist with the University of Washington Orchestra.
Later she was a scholarship student of Alfred Mirovitch and Sascha Gorodnitzski at Juilliard School of Music. After a six-month tour of West Coast universities and colleges she became pianist for Amato Opera Company in New York City.
King Bosworth arrived in New York City at the age of 17 to study piano at Juilliard, where his teachers were Arthur Newstead and Katherine Bacon. He has also coached with the internationally acclaimed pianists Walter Hautzig, Menahem Pressler, and the late Lili Kraus.
Mr Bosworth has appeared frequently in the New York metropolitan area, both as a solo pianist and in two piano programs. With one partner he made a European tour, performing in six major music capitals and receiving plaudit reviews.
Since moving to Heritage Village and teaming up, Mrs Somoroff-Lubell and Mr Bosworth have appeared at Merryall Center for the Arts in New Milford, and then that program was repeated in Heritage Hall to benefit its piano fund. The team was featured in Heritage Hallâs 9/11 Tribute & Fundraising Concert, and continue to participate in the monthly Wednesday morning musicales.
Their program on July 11 will offer include works of Bach, Saint-Saens, Poulenc, Godowski, Rachmaninoff and Gershwin, including Saint-Saensâ âCaprice on Airsâ from Gluckâs Alcest and Rachmaninoffâs Variation 17 (Rhapsodie on a theme of Paganini), both arranged for two pianos by Mr Bosworth.
The Homesteads is at 166 Mt Pleasant Road (Route 6) in Newtown. Reservations are required for the concert; call 426-8118.
