Davidson Insurance scored five runs in the first inning and seven more in the sixth inning to hold off Newtown Exxon, 16-10, in Newtown Women’s Slo-Pitch Softball League action. Davidson was strong on the defensive end of this game, too, turning a couple of double plays.

The win came after a 17-8 loss to 707 On Main in which Karen Powell and Lisa Johns each went 3-for-4.

In other action, Walker Industrials defeated Century 21, 6-2, despite the efforts of Century 21 players like Aimee Richard (who scored the first run of the game and went 3-for-3), Karen Katrinak (single, double, RBI), and Bev Maley (2-for-3). Century 21 put together 11 hits.

Walker scored one in the bottom of the first inning and twice more in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead. The women of Century threatened Walker with the bases loaded situation in the fourth inning, but the rally came up short on a routine infield ground out that left three players on base.

Walker scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sharon Vetrano (three hits), Lynne Kova (two hits, two runs scored) and Maria Ross (two RBI) all had solid games for Walker. Rose DeSimone pitched well.

Walker followed up that win with a 16-8 decision over Newtown Exxon.

Kovac had four hits while Sue Liss tripled twice and doubled to lead a 27-hit attack. Joanne DiDonato earned the win.

Meanwhile, Exxon defeated Hot Shots, 14-10, as Kelly_Andrews belted a home run while Cathy_Ochs and Melissa Kopcik played well.

For Hot Shots, Sarah Jane Lewis and Peg Bowers tripled while Marcy Marciolek played well.
