The Newtown Bee is scheduled to host Attorney General William Tong for an editorial board meeting Monday, July 8, subject to his availability.
Readers are invited to submit a question for the Attorney General via e-mail to [naviga:u]editor@thebee.com[/naviga:u], subject line Attorney General. Deadline to submit is noon on Friday, July 5.
Questions must be relevant to the position of the attorneys general and his office.
As Connecticut’s elected lead legal counselor, the AG has:
*The authority to issue formal opinions to state agencies;
*Act as public advocates in areas such as child support enforcement, consumer protections, antitrust and utility regulation;
*Propose legislation; enforce federal and state environmental laws;
*Represent the state and state agencies before the state and federal courts;
*Institute civil suits on behalf of the state;
*Represent the public's interests in charitable trust and solicitations; and
*Operate victim compensation programs.
