In Gothia-Dana Tour This Month
Matthew Wright and Nicolas Wright of Sandy Hook have been chosen to play with the United Soccer Academy Internationalâs select teams on the Gothia-Dana Soccer Tour to Germany, Sweden, and Denmark later this month.
The two were selected following nationwide tryouts.
Matthew (a student at Newtown High School) and Nicolas (a student at Reed Intermediate School) will be participating in the worldâs largest youth soccer tournament, the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden, which will feature more than 1,500 teams from over 60 countries.
United Soccer Academy International of Delray Beach, Florida, enters girlsâ and boysâ teams up to the under-19 age group. Players are picked for the tour from nationwide tryouts. The teams will also play in the Dana Cup in Hjorring, Denmark, which features more than 800 teams from 42 nations.
The United Soccer Academy International teams will first assemble at the residential sports training center, the Gilde Sporthotel Fuchsbachtal, in Germany, for three-a-day sessions for four days, including some friendly matches against local clubs, before traveling to Sweden.
âWith the continued growth of youth soccer in the US, this is a great time to be competing in Europe against other teams from the world and showcasing Americaâs up-and-coming players,â said Bill Fisher, director of United Soccer Academy International.
