To the Editor:

A Friday afternoon tradition has just gotten better. Opened my mailbox to The Newtown Bee Volume CXLV number 25, and saw the new colors, but familiar banner, and George Lockwood, Sr’s name, great way to end a long week.

You have been my family’s hometown paper all my 64, soon to be 65 years, and mom and dad were here a lot longer.

Until the subscription started, Thursday night, pick up The Bee at the Grand Union or, later, “The Smoke Shop” aka Newtown Convenience Store. It’s the only paper that was/is always read by the whole family.

If it was in The Bee, you could bank on it, and you have gotten this community through a lot, just look at “The Way We Were” to see that.

Honest, impartial and accurate reporting, even if we didn’t like what we read. You have always been there when we needed you, even if we didn’t know it.

The Bee will always have a place in my home, and seeing community members and locations around town in color make it even better.

So thank you Smith family and the staff and owners of this “Hometown Gem” — subscription is renewed with pleasure and the kid and I are looking forward to many more editions!

It even goes to New Hampshire to keep my sister up-to-date.
