First Thursday Event Will Be

An Anselm Kiefer BBQ

RIDGEFIELD — The current Anselm Kiefer exhibition at The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art has inspired a rave review in The New York Times, a star from New York Magazine, its very own transportation from New York City, hundreds of visitors to the museum, and a stunning endorsement from National Endowment of the Arts director Dana Gioia.

Now the exhibition has inspired the staff of the Ridgefield museum, who want to throw the biggest BBQ bash of the summer on as July’s First Thursday event. The next event will be on Thursday, July 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

The museum will provide all the drinks, food, music, games, and tours of the exhibitions. Also, musician Halsey Burgund will be recording peoples’ experiences at the museum that evening as part of his Bring Your Own Voice Tour.

The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. People wearing Lederhosen or purchasing a new membership will get in free.

Renowned German painter Anselm Kiefer has a monumental exhibition in The Aldrich’s sculpture garden. This is the work’s exclusive US venue, and the only opportunity to see the work before it disappears into a private Connecticut collection. The First Thursday event will be is a great chance for the Aldrich to show it off, while attendees enjoy a summer night in the museum’s sculpture garden.

First Thursdays: a Contemporary Cocktail Hour guests this year have already enjoyed a Peruvian-themed night, relived (and improved on) their prom night, and gotten a solid dose of New York City.

August’s First Thursday will be a Dog Days of Summer Dance Party on Thursday, August 3. The museum’s outdoor patios will be transformed into an enormous lounge for one hot night, including reduced admission for dancing disco divas.

Reservations are not necessary. The museum, at 258 Main Street (Route 35) in Ridgefield, can be reached for additional information by calling 203-438-4519.
