Douglas Pessoni

Douglas Pessoni, 82 years old, died at his home in Hendersonville, Tenn. with his wife, Audrey and son Mark, present on April 27th, 2023. He had a long and arduous battle with ALS.

He never once complained while the disease claimed his body a piece at a time. He stood on his faith and remained a loving husband and father. He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Edward Pessoni of East Hampton, Conn.; and his brother David Pessoni (Debbie) of Florida.

Doug grew up in Connecticut, obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois. He held various employments throughout the US working initially in the aerospace industry as a mechanical engineer. One of his noted projects was working on the design of the backpack for the moon landing.

He loved to hike, garden, work on projects with his 3 boys, volunteering to be a Corner Marshall for BMX competitions, and participating as an assistant leader for the Boy Scouts. His most enjoyable activity was to study the Bible. He authored a book, “With Healing in His Wings” about the healing power of God.

He enjoyed teaching about this topic in various churches and on radio shows. He loved to go to hospitals or homes to pray for the sick. In his earlier years he loved skydiving and scuba diving. He made over 40 jumps and served on the Illinois Police Underwater Recovery team. He had several inventions that are registered in the US Patent Office.

Doug is survived by his wife, Audrey, of 54 years; sons, Mark, Matthew, and Scott of Nashville, Tenn.; and granddaughter, Ella Pessoni, of New York. He leaves a sister, Day Kovacs (Andy) of Pennsylvania; brother, E. Daniel Pessoni (Linda) of Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Debbie Pessoni of Florida; and brother-in-law, Keith Busch (Alice) of Connecticut. In addition, he leaves several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 2 pm at St Timothy Lutheran Church, 650 East Main St, Hendersonville, TN 37075. Visitation will be held prior to the Service from 12 noon to 1:30 pm.
