The following area residents received degrees from Fairfield University during a Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 20: Brendan Buzaid of Newtown received a bachelor of science degree from the universityâs College of Arts and Sciences; Charles Copp of Newtown and Christie Fogelstrom of Newtown, received bachelor of arts degrees from the universityâs College of Arts and Sciences; Newtowners Cynthia DaSilva and Aaron Johnson received master of arts degrees from Fairfield Universityâs Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions; Donna Duris of Sandy Hook received a master of science degree in nursing from the universityâs School of Nursing; Jonathan Greenfield  of Newtown received a master of fine arts degree from Fairfieldâs College of Arts and Sciences; Andrew Iorio of Newtown received a master of science degree from the universityâs School of Engineering;; Anne LoPiccolo of Newtown received a bachelor of science degree from the universityâs School of Nursing; Dennis OâConnor of Newtown received a master of science degree from the universityâs School of Engineering; and Stefan Toi of Newtown received a bachelor of science degree from the universityâs Charles F. Dolan School of Business.
Veronica Parsloe of Sandy Hook graduated with honors from the University of New Haven on May 13, with a bachelor in arts and science degree in communications. She was a member of the Beta Kappa chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, vice president for the National Communication Honor Society, a member of the Tau Sigma Honor Society, and was also named on the universityâs spring semester deanâs list. Veronica also interned at Easter Seals during this past semester, and will be working with the Grants Department for the University of New Haven, assisting with grant writing, this summer.
Jonathan Zigman of Sandy Hook and Emily Loose of Newtown graduated from Forest University, Winston Salem, N.C., during a commencement ceremony on May 21.
The following area residents were named to the deanâs list for the spring semester at Quinnipiac University, Hamden: Aimee Frier, Kyle Gallatin, Megan Meier, and Nicholas Pasacreta of Newtown, and Linda Magliocco, Matthew Narel, and Erin Nemeth of Sandy Hook. To qualify for the deanâs list at the university, a student must earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 with no grade lower than a C.
Sandy Hook resident Jacqueline Kirol graduated with a bachelor of science degree in nursing from James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va., during commencement exercises at the university in May. The following James Madison University students were named to the universityâs deanâs list for the spring semester: Molly Marcucilli, Jacqueline Kirol, and Hannah Basch-Gould of Sandy Hook, and Vanessa Courchene-Roy of Newtown. Students who earn deanâs list honors at the university must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a grade point average of between 3.5 and 3.899.
Grace Galie of Newtown, a member of the Class of 2012 at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., earned term honors for the spring semester. Term honors are awarded for a quality point ratio of 3.650 from a possible 4.0, for students who have completed 14 credit hours.
Jared C. Kloth of Newtown, a member of the Class of 2013 at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, was named to the schoolâs deanâs list for his outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester.
 Kaitlin E. Knox of Sandy Hook has been named to the deanâs list for the spring semester at the University of Vermont, Burlington. Kaitlin is a sophomore Latin major in the College of Arts & Sciences at the university. To be named to the deanâs list at the university, students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.
Sacred Heart University in Fairfield recently announced its graduates from the annual Commencement held on May 12 and 13. Local residents who earned degrees were Kellie Datin of Newtown, master of science degree in computer science; Nicholas Garofalo of Newtown, bachelor of science degree in finance; Nancy Hatfield of Newtown earned master of arts in teaching; Christina Sampaio of Newtown earned a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice; Newtowners Alyssa Stendahl and Patricia Strasburger and Sara Pollock of Sandy Hook earned bachelor of science degrees in nursing; Michelle Velthuizen of Newtown earned a master of arts degree in teaching; and Christopher Wermuth of Newtown earned a certificate in advanced studies in administration.
Kelly A. Tenney of Sandy Hook was named to the deanâs list at Endicott College, Beverly, Mass., for its spring semester.
Denise Ann Branecky of Newtown and Stephen Michael Zvon, Jr, of Sandy Hook were named to the deanâs list at Clemson (S.C.) University for its spring semester.
Newtown residents Ian White and Hannah Tenebaum recently graduated from Gettysburg (Penn.) College. Ian earned a bachelorâs degree in environmental students and philosophy and Hannah earned a bachelorâs degree in sociology.
Western New England University, Springfield, Mass, recently released the names of local residents who earned degrees at the end of its 2011-12 school year: Rachael A. Marlin of Sandy Hook, Jessica L. Biscoe of Newtown, and Kelly J. Corrigan of Newtown.
The University of Scranton (Penn.) announced its Deanâs List, which recognizes students for academic excellence during the spring semester recently, and Caitlin DâEramo and Margaret Sullivan, both  of Sandy Hook, were named on the list. At the university a student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours to qualify.

The University of Hartford recently announced that Sarah Connor of Newtown, Kelly Keenan of Sandy Hook, and Megan Keenan of Sandy Hook have been named to the Deanâs List for its spring semester:
William Brooks of Sandy Hook graduated from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., on Sunday, June 10 during the collegeâs commencement exercises. William, a mechanical engineering major, received a bachelor of science degree.
