Blueline Designs Capture Softball Championship
 Blueline Designs doubled up Wellbaskets.com 10-5 to win the 12 year old softball championship game at Newtown Middle Schoolâs field this past week.
This exciting championship game was a showcase of a seasonâs worth of hard work and dedication. Every play and swing of the bat had fans on the edge of their seats wondering which team would finally end up on top.
The Bluelines came from last place to catch fire en route to the championship win over the first place team. Team members who contributed in the win were Alexa Horkachuck, Dani Otero, Laura LaFreniere, Sophie Wolfman, Julia Anderson, Ali Nuzzo, Rose Wheway, and Casey Muckell. The Bluelines team was coached by Pete Muckell and Nancy Anderson.
The Bluelines put up a great defense, holding back a potent offense behind great pitching by Nuzzo and Horkachuck. Otero and Wheway played spectacularly in the catching position. Wolfman and LaFreniere made the team proud by making two critical outs. LaFreniere got the long awaited base hit. Anderson, Muckell, and Nuzzo all hit the ball hard. Horkachuck made the title-clinching catch.
WellBaskets.com pitcher Tegan Doherty immediately shut down the opposing offense. The WellBaskets.com girls then went on to score three runs before the end of the inning. Kaelana Dauber took the mound in the second inning. She pitched well, but the bats of Blueline responded for a 5-3 lead.
The third inning saw another reversal as Tegan Doherty took the mound again. Doherty struck out two batters, and got extraordinary defensive help from catcher Jacklin Gouveia and shortstop Kayla McClay who picked off a runner stealing second base. In the bottom of the third, Vanessa Tucker led off the inning within a single, Madalynn Giglio drew a walk, and Tegan Doherty tied up the game with a double that drove both home.
Christina Sgobbo took the mound in the fourth inning and showed her grit. She battled Blueline with the help of Lizzi Hodge at third base, Kaelana Dauber at second base, and Jacklin Gouveia at first. Blueline scored five more runs and took the lead 10-5.
In the bottom of the fourth, Lizzi Hodge, had a single, but was left on base with WellBaskets.com unable to score. he final inning saw the return of Doherty to the mound. She struck out the first batter and then got out of the inning with two phenomenal plays from Madalyn Giglio at second, throwing to Nicki DaPra at first. WellBaskets fought back hard in the last inning and had runners in scoring position, but couldnât get them across the plate.
