Adams Withdraws Civil Suits Against Town, School District
By John Voket
Thomas Adams, a principal of MTM Transportation, informed The Bee June 23 that he has withdrawn his civil suits against the town and school district. Citing the potential cost to continue pursuing the legal action, Mr Adams said he wants to concentrate his energies on providing special needs and other related transportation services through his company.
District Business Manager Ron Bienkowski confirmed the information, supplying a link to a state judicial website which indicated the lawsuits had been withdrawn. He also briefly reported that information to the Board of Education during a marathon seven-hour meeting June 19, according to board Chair Debbie Leidlein.
Neither First Selectman Pat Llodra nor Selectmen James Gaston and Will Rodgers received notice that the suit against the town was withdrawn. Mr Gaston had made several statements related to the suit in a report in last weekâs edition of The Bee, but when he was contacted about the withdrawal after the report was published, he replied, âThatâs news to me.â
The selectman has maintained, however, that he did not believe the town was exposed in the Adamsâ suit.
On Monday, June 25, Mrs Llodra said that she had not yet received word about the change of status, and the town clerkâs office also had no official notification regarding the suit.
According to Mr Adams, he directed his attorney to withdraw the action against the town, and the motion to withdraw was logged with the state on June 1. The suit originally sought to have the contract that was awarded to All-Star Transportation by the school district rescinded.
