Tour Was A ‘Rousing Success’

To the Editor:

On behalf of the board of trustees of the Newtown Historical Society, we would like to thank everyone who attended our House and Garden Tour and made it a rousing success on Saturday, June 23. The weather was perfect and so was the event. We would like to give thanks to the nine homeowners who opened their homes and gardens to more than 200 enthusiastic visitors.

None of this would have happened without the leadership of Andrea Macaluso, chairperson of the event, who stepped up early this year and took on this challenge. Ginny Carey worked very hard leading our publicity campaign and Paula Stephan was on the phone for days on end arranging for all the docents and guides. As always, Gordon Williams pitched in and did all kinds of tasks from arm twisting homeowners for great properties to display, to helping with the wine and cheese party at Miller’s Barn.

The Red Garage, The Drug Center, and the Booth Library all helped with the sale of tickets.

This is an important event for our society, as we are a volunteer organization and the funds raised go toward helping to maintain our Matthew Curtiss House Museum on Main Street.

We would also like to acknowledge the continued support of The Newtown Bee and its wonderful staff that are always willing to give us space to tell our story.

Again, thank you very much.

Lincoln R. Sander
