Tenth Season Of Summer Sounds Will Fill The Air
BRIDGEPORT â Black Rock Art Center will present two ongoing music series this summer, both offering free performances of myriad music styles.
The 10th Annual Summer Sounds concerts will be presented on Sunday afternoons at various locations in Bridgeport.
The series will begin on July 8 with salsa and Latin jazz performed by Mikata. The concert will be at Went Field, at the corner of Went Street and Railroad Avenue,
Concerts will continue with Anthem Reggae Band on July 15, performing at Washington Park, at the corner of Washington and Barnum Avenues. The David Munnelly Irish Band, an award-winning band from Ireland, will be at Puglio Park, adjacent to Veterans Memorial Park on Madison Avenue, on July 22; and then Cosmic Jibaros, with Latin rock, will close the monthâs performances on July 29 with a concert at Newfield Park, 698 Seaview Avenue.
The Sweetport Festival
The Sweetport Festival will be a three-concert series, with each taking place on McLevy Green, at the corner of State and Main Streets. These concerts will be on Friday nights starting at 6, and admission is free.
The series will open on July 20 with Ashford & Simpson, one of the most prolific, versatile and exciting musical couples in recording history.
On July 27, the multiple Grammy Award winner Eddie Palmiere will bring his famous mix of salsa, R&B, pop, rock, Spanish vocals and jazz improv to the green. A special performance will also be offered by The Manchado Afro-Caribbean Band.
Then on August 3, the series will conclude with a performance by the Grammy and MTV Music award-winning band Living Colour. Singer Corey Glover, bassist Doug Wimbish, guitarist Vernon Reid and drummer Will Calhoun will headline a show that will include an opening set by Will Calhounâs Native Lands Experience.
