Sailing Regatta Set For July 15

BRIDGEPORT — Calling all sailors. Fayerweather Yacht Club and Black Rock Yacht Club are joining together to support St Vincent’s Medical Center Swim Across the Sound in the second annual Swim Regatta July 15. All sailors are invited to join in on this fun day.

Proceeds will benefit St Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound Breast Cancer Unit.

Boats will divide into three groups ,with races for spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions. For non-racers there will be a new event. Given compass headings, the fun boat crews will sail to four designated marks to find word clues. These clues will help lead the successful skipper and crew to guessing an object or a thing associated with the word clues and win a prize. All boats will meet back at Fayerweather for a picnic provided by the Fayerweather Woman’s Auxiliary.

Participating skippers will receive two free reserved seats for a seminar on small boat race tactics to be given by David Dellenbaugh, international and national racing champion and tactician on the America’s Cup winner America3.

Overnight dockage will be free for this event. All entrants will receive a full color digital photo of their boat taken during the event. To register visit www.hometown.aol.com/SASSRfyc or call Tom Lee at 203-259-0435.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, Swim Across the Sound funds 33 cancer prevention, screening, and education programs. Last year the Swim raised $1.7 million, and it is expected to reach $2 million in 2001. To make a donation or volunteer for a Swim event, visit www.swimsound.org.
