ROWAYTON — “Art the Table,” an all media exhibition featuring work by more than 50 area artists, all RAC members, is on view at Rowayton Arts Center (RAC) through July 21.

Winners in a number of categories were announced and celebrated during the exhibition’s opening reception on June 23.

Paul R. Berger of Newtown received Best in Show honors for his photograph “Abandoned Counter.” Additional winners included Tom Kretsch of Westport for his photograph “Good Food,” first place; Amy Schott of Wilton for her mixed media work “Jiggle,” second place; Andrea Letters of Rowayton for her photograph “The Apple of My Eye,” third place; and Ronnie Gold of Stamford for the pastel piece “Late for Dinner,” Ann Marie Tetelman of South Salem for her etching “Gathering,” and Bela Szabo of Norwalk for her watercolors “Apples!,” who each received honorable mention.

Artists were challenged with offering works of art that address the ritual of the meal when considering what to enter for the juried “At the Table.”

According to the exhibition’s prospectus, “The gathering of many or few (or even just one!) to consume food can be for many reasons: there are meals for romance or reconnection, of excess or paucity, out of habit and necessity. Food is a key ingredient when we celebrate, mourn, or simply meet. The setting could be elegant or simple — a healthy farm-to-table spread or takeout on the run.

“These days, in our fast-paced, tech-driven lives, perhaps the role of the meal as respite and the human connection it may provide is more important than ever. We feed others and are fed. Food not only nourishes our bodies, but can nourish our souls,” the prospectus continued.

Artists were limited to one entry for this show.

The chair for the exhibition is Amy Schott, and the co-chair is Milan Chilla. Westport artist Heidi Palmer served as the judge.

Ms Chilia focuses on three elements in her work: light, air, and the meaning of time. Ms Chilia attended L’École des Beaux Arts de Montréal, Canada, and earned a BFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. She has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows around New England and has paintings included in public collections such as the New York Presbyterian Medical Center and the Federal Reserve Bank in New York City, as well as Hunter Museum of Art in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Ms Chilia is represented by the Jessie Edwards Studio on Block Island, R.I.; Somerville Manning Gallery in Greenville, Del.; and Cooper and Smith Gallery in Essex, Conn.

RAC gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, noon to 5 pm; and Saturday and Sunday (Sunday during the summer only), 10 am to 1 pm.
