DUI Incident

Police report that at about 10:30 pm on June 18, they spotted motorist Nomia Durrani, 31, of Easton driving on Wasserman Way, near Trades Lane.

Durrani was not keeping to the right and made an improper turn, so police stopped her to investigate, according to police documents.

After investigating, police charged Durrani with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and making an improper turn, police report.

After processing, police released Durrani on $1,000 nonsurety bail for a July 2 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Mercedes Damaged

Police are investigating a case of “evading responsibility” in connection with an automotive collision that occurred in a local commercial parking lot, after which the driver responsible for the incident left the scene without reporting the crash.

Sometime between 12:15 and 1 pm on Wednesday, June 19, an early-1980s tan Mercedes-Benz convertible was parked unoccupied in the lot near Ricci’s Salon and Spa at 99 South Main Street (Route 25) at South Main Marketplace.

The driver of an unknown vehicle collided with the Mercedes’ right rear fender, damaging it.

Police said that evidence at the scene indicated the vehicle that caused the damage was either a truck or a SUV.

Police Officer Matthew Pirhala is investigating the incident at asks anyone with knowledge of the offender to contact him at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Five Charges

Police said that at about 5:22 pm on June 21, they stopped motorist John Carney, 23, of 6 Shepaug Road to investigate near 62 Church Hill Road.

Police initially charged Carney with using a handheld cellphone while driving and with driving with a suspended licensed.

A review of police documents indicated that Carney was wanted on a warrant on charges of second-degree failure to appear in court, following too closely, and driving with a suspended license in connection with a past incident, police said.

After arrest processing, Carney was released on $600 bail for a July 3 court appearance.

Four MV Charges

Police said they spotted motorist Nicholas Sarantos, 25, of Monroe driving a 1998 BMW 328-I northward near 286 South Main Street without a front marker plate on the vehicle about 10 am on June 21, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Sarantos with failure to display a front marker plate, misuse of a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving without automotive insurance.

Police released Sarantos on a written promise to appear in court on July 10.

Toyota Vs Ford

Police report a two-vehicle accident in a congested area near 348 South Main Street at about 2:10 pm on June 19.

Motorist Heliane Cyr, 49, of Brookfield was driving a 1996 Ford Econoline van southward on South Main Street in a construction zone and then stopped due to traffic conditions, after which southbound motorist Janis Arena, 56, of 3 Bennetts Bridge Road, who was driving a 2012 Toyota Corolla sedan, struck the rear end of the Ford, according to police.

Arena was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked for pain, police said. Arena received an infraction for following too closely, police said.

Utility Hole

Motorist Nicole Scalora, 19, of 34 Mountain View Drive, who was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt sedan northward on Queen Street in front of Newtown Middle School at about 5:50 pm on June 17, drove over a loose steel lid that was positioned upright in a water-supply utility hole on the street, police said.

The auto’s undercarriage took the impact, resulting in an automotive fluid spill that disabled the vehicle, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Ford Hits Pole

Police report that motorist Sarah Stofko, 17, of 18 Chimney Swift Drive was driving a 2004 Ford Escape SUV southward on Main Street, near its intersection with Martin Street, during the early morning hours of June 23, when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the road and it went off the right road shoulder, striking a 15-foot-tall lightpost.

The lightpost landed on the road, police said. The vehicle came to rest on the road’s northbound shoulder facing southward, police said.

Police said they found Stofko about one hour after the collision had occurred. There were no injuries.

Police said they charged Stofko with evading responsibility and with making an improper turn. Stofko is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

South Main Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred about 5:23 pm on June 17 on South Main Street, near its southernmost intersection with Elm Drive.

Motorist Eric Gaucher, 26, of Stratford, who was driving a 2009 Ford Ranger pickup truck, was positioned in the driveway at 79 South Main Street and was waiting to make a left turn onto southbound South Main Street, as motorist James P. Nolan, Jr, 18, of Ansonia was driving a 2001 Saturn sedan northward on South Main Street, police report.

At the truck attempted to make the turn, the two vehicles collided, police said. There were no injuries. Gaucher received a verbal warning for failure to grant the right of way, police said.

Highway Collision

At about 3 pm on June 21, motorist Akmin McKelvey, 32, of Danbury, who was driving a 2012 GMC Terrain SUV, was traveling in the left lane of two lanes on eastbound Interstate 84, as motorist Joseph Adler, 68, of Woodmere, N.Y., who was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata sedan, was traveling in the right lane, state police aid.

The Hyundai then veered to the left, striking the GMC, state police said. There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Subaru Vs Subaru

On westbound Interstate 84 at about 8:24 am on June 20, motorist Rachel Netri, 36, of Bethlehem, who was driving a 2006 Subaru Tribeca, struck the rear end of a 2009 Subaru Impreza driven by Elena Stetka, 26, of Oakville, according to state police.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for him, Steve Oliver 41, of Brookfield went to the police station about 4:36 pm on June 24 and was charged with evading responsibility, traveling too fast for conditions, and failure to drive in the proper lane, police said.

That arrest followed an investigation into a May 23 nighttime motor vehicle accident.

Police have said that Oliver was driving a 2002 Mazda B-4000 pickup truck northward on a wet Hawleyville Road, when the vehicle crossed the road’s center line, entered the opposite lane and drove into a driveway at 63 Hawleyville Road, after which the truck entered a ditch and rolled onto its passenger side. The truck struck several small trees and damaged a lawn.

On June 24, Oliver posted $100 bail and was released for a July 9 court appearance.

Parking Lot

At about 2:30 pm on June 23, Carley Van Ferris, 17, of 43 The Boulevard, who was driving a 2004 Audi A-4 station wagon in the police station parking lot, was backing out of parking space, but backed into a parked, unoccupied town police 2010 Ford Expedition SUV, police said. Both vehicles were damaged.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Dodgingtown Accident

Police report that motorist Michael Dinelli, 16, of 8 Hawthorne Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 Nissan X-Terra SUV eastward on Dodgingtown Road about 12:22 pm on June 20, began making a left turn onto Taunton Hill Road, but the vehicle experienced some apparent equipment problems after which it went off the road and struck some curbing and a walkway.

Dinelli was not injured. Police said they issued him a written warning for making an improper turn.

Ford Vs Cadillac

At about 11:37 am on June 25, motorist Joan Lavery, 63, of 3 Franklin Court, who was driving a 2007 Cadillac DTS sedan, stopped on southbound South Main Street at its intersection with Sugar Street, South Main Street, and Glover Avenue, police said.

Motorist Hunter French, 19, of 6 Bobcat Lane, who was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer SUV, then stopped behind the Cadillac, police said.

The Ford the moved forward and struck the rear end of the Cadillac, police said. There were no injuries. French received a written warning for following too closely, police said.
