Cars Is That?

Jen Spanedda (at right) and Lauren Hanulik (far right) had very good reason to smile last weekend. While scrubbing the windows of a Jeep Wrangler (while Cory Spinelli stayed inside the vehicle and watched from the passenger seat), they and others who were running a three-hour car wash on June 21 were on their way to raising more than $500 for ecumenical workcamp efforts. Jen and Lauren, along with other young adults from Newtown Congregational, Newtown United Methodist, St Rose (of which the girls are members) and Sacred Heart churches, are preparing to spend one week in North Carolina next month, helping families who need a hand repairing their homes and properties. Cars were washed in return for financial donations, which will help the group cover travel and other expenses. —Bee Photos, Hicks
