Ford Vs Chevy

At about 7:24 pm June 24, while traveling in the left eastbound lane of Church Hill Road, motorist Robert Ortiz, 22, of Bethel, who was driving a 2004 Ford Focus, attempted to enter the right eastbound lane, but collided with motorist Celester Scherer, Jr, 42, of Woodbury, who was driving a 1998 Chevrolet van in that lane, police report.

There were no injuries. Ortiz received a written warning for failure to drive in the established lane, police said.

Van Off Road

Motorist Patrick O’Loughlin, 39, of Brighton, Mass., was driving a commercial 2008 Chevrolet van eastward near 214 Hattertown Road about 10 pm June 19, when he took his eyes off the road and then drove off the right side of the street, knocking over a wooden fence there, police said.

O’Loughlin was not injured. Police have him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Berkshire Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Toddy Hill Road, on June 20.

Motorist Nancy Cerreta, 53, of 6 Leopard Drive, who was driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, was slowing for traffic conditions, when the Jeep was struck from behind by motorist Patrick Carbonell, 22, of 8 Honey Lane, who was driving a 1992 Plymouth Acclaim sedan, according to police.

There were no injuries. Carbonell received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Moving Violations

During a routine police check of passing motor vehicles in front of Newtown Middle School on Queen Street at about 8:50 am June 24, police stopped motorist John B. Maia, Jr, 45, of Waterbury, because the vehicle he was driving had no front marker plate.

Police charged Maia with failure to have a front marker plate, driving with a suspended license, and failure to have an automotive insurance identification card.

 After processing, police released Maia on $100 bail for a July 8 court appearance.

Altercation

Police received a call about 12:45 pm June 23 alerting them of an altercation in the lobby of the Connecticut Light & Power Company (CL&P) building at 20 Barnabas Road, after which they went there to investigate.

Police charged Eugene Grenier, 62, of Danbury with disorderly conduct in connection with the incident.

Police released Grenier on a written promise to appear July 8 in Danbury Superior Court.
