The Sun Shines On The Newtown Scholarship Association
To the Editor:
On Monday, June 16, the sun was shining at Whitney Farms Golf Club for the 11th annual Jack Friel Memorial Golf Scramble to benefit the Newtown Scholarship Association. This tournament is one of the major annual fundraisers for the NSA, which each year awards more than 60 scholarships totaling over $150,000 to high school graduates and as continuing aid to undergraduates. Since 1937, nearly $2.5 million has been awarded in scholarships to Newtown students
The NSA board of governors would especially like to thank the tournament sponsor, Newtown Savings Bank. In addition, we extend our sincere thanks to the following âspecialâ event sponsors: Union Savings Bank; The Settle Agency; GE Capital; J.P. Maguire Associates; Sippin Energy Products; Savings Bank of Danbury; Beardsley, Brown & Bassett, Inc; Curtis Packaging Inc; US Filter Co.; Clean Cut Landscaping; Dr. Henry Gellert; World Wine & Spirits; Poland Springs; Pepsi Bottling Group; the Law Offices of James O. Gaston; Total Tree & Landscaping; Attorney Michael B. Nahoum; Willow Environmental; Connecticut Family Chiropractic; WTNH News Channel 8; Mark Fries; John and Terri-Ann Martocci; Rock Ridge members; Aquarion Water Co.; and J. F. Walsh Logging, Inc.Â
We gratefully acknowledge all of our scramble volunteers, especially Nancy Taylor, Amy Dent, Ellen Kunst, and Betty Lou Osborne. Finally, thank you to all of our hole sponsors (too numerous to name here) and to the enthusiastic golfers who helped make this day such a highly anticipated, enjoyable, and successful event.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Clark
