Old Plates

Are Illegal

WATERBURY –– Having a vehicle with two different colored license plates –– the new gradient blue on one end and the old dark blue on the other –– is illegal, according to the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.

Motorists should display only the new plates to avoid a $90 fine.

DMV officials said the state’s license plate replacement program ended June 15 and all dark blue license plates should have been replaced with two new gradient blue plates. All vehicles must have two of the new plates displayed at all times. The old plates may be discarded.

Vehicle owners who need a gradient blue plate should call the DMV telephone center at 800-842-8222.
