Crime Victims Have Rights

PLAINVILLE –– Victims of violent crimes in Connecticut have rights that they might not be aware of, according to the Office of Victim Services of the Connecticut Judicial Branch.

A person who is hurt or who lost a loved one during a crime may be eligible for financial reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses for such things as medical care, counseling, and funeral costs.

According to the Office of Victims Services, a violent crime such as murder, assault, and robbery occur about every 45 minutes in Connecticut, and each of these crimes has at least one victim. Anyone who has been a victim, may call the agency at 800-822-8428 for more information.
