The Pastels Of Dick McEvoy At Roxbury Library

ROXBURY — A reception on Saturday, July 7, from noon to 2 pm, at Roxbury’s Minor Memorial Library will launch an exhibit and sale of impressionistic landscapes in pastel by the Newtown artist Dick McEvoy. In addition to scenes around Connecticut and other New England states, Mr McEvoy’s show will also include his images gathered during recent trips to Tuscany and other parts of Italy.

The exhibit will continue until August 15 during regular library hours: Monday, noon to 7 pm; Wednesday, 10 am to 7 pm; Thursday and Friday, 10 am to 5 pm, and Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm.

Some of Mr McEvoy’s work is on permanent display at The Grey Horse Gallery in Sandy Hook and he has exhibited paintings at juried shows throughout New England, but his upcoming show in Roxbury will mark Mr McEvoy’s one-man show debut in Litchfield County.

He is a member of several art organizations including the Connecticut Pastel Society in which he also serves as vice president and Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod.

Mr McEvoy has won many awards for his work such as the Pastel Society of America Award, National Show (1998) and the Memorial Award from the Connecticut Pastel Society (1996). He studied art at Rhode Island School of design and with Violette DeMazia at The Barnes Foundation in addition to workshops with prominent artist teachers.

In addition to his work in art, Mr McEvoy is a strategic business planner as a partner with the Michael Allen Co. in Westport.

“I have always loved drawing and painting and now as my children are more on their own, I am able to concentrate more time on my next career as a full-time artist,” says the artist.

The library, at 23 South Street in Roxbury, can be contacted by calling 860-350-2181.
