Goodspeed Returning July 11 For SCAN

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown will host a demonstration by Barbara Goodspeed of Sherman on Wednesday, July 11, at 7:30 pm. Ms Goodspeed will be painting a landscape in oil.

The meeting is open to the public and will be at Newtown Meeting House (lower level), 31 Main Street in Newtown. Admission is free.

Barbara Goodspeed is very popular with SCAN members because she always presents an instructional demo. She has trained under some very well known artists, including Ed Whitney, and she shares the insights she has learned from these artists. She explains the importance of composition and design in a successful painting as she creates each of her demonstration paintings.

Barbara Goodspeed’s work has earned a very long list of awards, including the Jane Petersen Award at the Salmagundi Club, a Brumbacher Gold Medal Award at the Kent Art Association, first in oil at SCAN and others. She is a signature member of many national organizations.

Her work has been published in several books including Best of Oil Paintings (Northlight), Best of Landscapes, Best of Watercolor 3 and Best of Watercolor — Light and Shade from Rockport Publishers. She is represented by Lenox Gallery in Lenox, Mass., and Fine Line Gallery in Woodbury.
