Free Program On Travel Medicine
WASHINGTON â The Gunn Memorial Library will host a lecture on âTravel Medicineâ by Norman Brachfeld, MD, on Tuesday, July 10, at 7 pm.
International business and tourist travel is increasing exponentially and so are the hazards a traveler must face. Some are merely inconvenient, others may pose serious threats to health or life. Dr Brachfeld, a professor of medicine at Cornell Medical College and a specialist in travel medicine, has served for many years as corporate medical director for the largest international medical assistance company.
He will discuss the most common hazards a traveler may encounter. The discussion will range from jet lag to diarrhea, from insect bites to heart attack, stroke and road traffic accidents with an emphasis on pre-trip planning, prophylaxis, and immunization schedules as well as on what to do if a serious medical problem does arise.
The presentation will discuss how to avoid medical unpleasantness when abroad and what to do if it should occur.
The program is free and open to the public. The library is at the juncture of Wykeham Road and Route 47 in Washington. Call the library for further information at 860-868-7586.
