The 2017-18 school year in Newtown came to a close on June 26 with students waving goodbye to teachers and school staff, sharing hugs, and wishing "Happy summer!" to each other.The Newtown Bee.

At Newtown Middle School, Pharrell Williams's song "Happy" played over the loudspeaker as students exited the building at the end of the day. The line, "Because I'm happy," could be heard over the sound of students wishing each other goodbye and stepping onto school buses.
