During two assemblies ceremonies at Newtown Middle School on Tuesday, June 16, students were announced and honored with awards.

NMS Principal Tom Einhorn said during the assembly for eighth grade students that the event was an opportunity to highlight more students than had been highlighted the night before that the school’s Moving Up Ceremony, held Monday, June 15, at Western Connecticut State University’s O’Neill Center in Danbury.

Retiring NMS educators were also recognized during the assemblies, and NMS School Resource Officer Lenny Penna, who will be taking on different duties next school year, was surprised with a frame filled with pictures of his time at the school and a plaque.

Students were named for cluster awards, world language awards, academic awards, physical education awards, and more during the assemblies.

Newtown Middle School did not release the names of students and the awards they received due to not having full parental permission to do so.

Newtown Middle School eighth grader Morgan Main was named as one of three students who received the NMS School Principal’s Academic Excellence Award, and he was given a certificate during a Tuesday, June 16, award assembly. Eighth graders John Auerbach and Robert Morrill also earned the award for challenging themselves academically and succeeding.
